HOW TO : CREATE A CLOSET

An Interview with Erin Manning

Erin Manning guides a garment from start to finish, from the loom to the sewing machine, all without a single pattern. Her work weaves neurodiverse philosophy with dreams of alternative futures throughout different scales of work.  From literal weaving, to a land project that produces maple syrup; community care unites them all. This is perhaps what she does so well in her own life: threading the material through the conceptual, creating a tangible universe to live in, that’s rich with meaning. We sat down at her studio/apartment in the Outremont neighborhood of Montreal, where a hand tufted rug invites you up the stairs.
